April 2, 1915, death called Daniel V. Crites. He had been very feeble and in ill health for some time. The funeral service was held at the Baptist church by Rev. A. J. Harris on April 3, and interment was at the Nocona Cemetery. Daniel V. Crites was born November 16, 1840 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, moved with his parents to Denton County, Texas in 1859. At age of 21, he volunteered in December 1861 for service in the 14th Texas Cavalry and was assigned to Company H. He served in Kentucky under Kirby Smith, attached to General Bragg’s command. Then he was in Tennessee and Georgia campaigns, wounded at Altoona, Georgia, taken prisoner by the Federals, then paroled, and left on foot for Texas. He married January 7, 1872 to Miss Nancy E. Priddy, who was a native Tennesssean. Two children were born to them, Clark W. Crites, who is one of Nocona’s leading business men, and Ada, who married B. T. Davis. Mr. and Mrs. Crites moved to Montague in 1902 where they have since resided. Their two grandchildren, Paul and Leola Davis, made their home with them since the death of their mother in April 1901.
