Molly Lee Jarvis Weiss, a resident of the wonderful Cherry Street Village of Nocona, TX, passed away from her earthly body to her heavenly home on July 18, 2007.

She was born April 12, 1914, in Troup, TX, to Ada Pitman Jarvis and Gus Jarvis. She graduated from Troup High School in 1932, attended Stephen F. Austin College in Nacogdoches, TX, for two years and completed her B.S. degree in Home Economics from what is now the University of North Texas in Denton, TX, in 1937. Her first teaching position was in Stoneburg, TX. She taught Home Economics at Nocona High School in the early 1940’s and married Roy Weiss, Jr. in April 1943. During World War II her beloved Roy was killed in August 1944, in a flight-training mission over Shiprock, NM. Molly and Roy’s only child, Linda Anne, was born just six months before Roy’s death.

Molly returned to teaching in Nocona schools in 1945 where she taught high school Home Economics, junior high Science and fourth grade. She ended her teaching career in 1975, with 36 years of teaching, nurturing and inspiring the youth of Nocona.

Molly was a gifted teacher, a loyal friend, a devoted mother and a grandmother and a committed follower of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The hallmark of Molly’s life was loving people. She showed her love in many ways-small bouquets to those in the hospital, a hug and an encouraging word for one struggling, a prayer for those with heavy burdens and timely advice and words of wisdom to a friend seeking counsel. She loved spending time in her yard, teaching Sunday School and Bible School at First Baptist, Nocona, learning new things along with her students of all ages, visiting with friends and family over a good meal or a cup of hot tea or coffee.
Her peers recognized her influence and service in the lives of the people of Nocona. In 1971 she was named Woman of the Year by the Nocona Chamber of Commerce. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Retired Teachers Associations, Nocona Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered for Meals on Wheels.

Molly is survived by her daughter, Linda Ann Weiss Davis and her husband, Joe, Denton, TX. Her three grandchildren and their families are Chris and Serena Davis and their children Adelaide, Emma Claire, Arden and Ellie, all of Nashville, TN; Joshua and Lisa Davis and their children, Olivia and Gideon, Nashville, TN; Laura Lee Richmond and Sean and their children, Molly Lee, Annie Kate and Jonathan and Samuel, Boston, MA. Molly is also survived by sister-in-law, Gloria Teague, Nocona; loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends of all ages. She will always be remembered as our precious “Marme, our lovely rose.
