SOUTH PADRE ISLAND Oretha Ann Hewitt Chapman, 73, died Feb. 3, 2013. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Feb. 6 at the Church of Christ in Nocona. She was born in Nocona, where she spent the majority of her life before retiring to South Padre Island, TX with her husband, Melvin Chapman. Chapman was a member of the Church of Christ and was on the board of directors for the Gladys Porter Zoo and past president of the Port Isabell Animal Shelter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Marie Hewitt; husband Jack Howard, Nocona; granddaughter Danielle Leblanc. She is survived by her husband Melvin Chapman; son Dr. Stewart Chapman; three daughters Melanie Howington, Kimberly Corbin and Cheryl Reynolds; ten grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to the Gladys Porter Zoo or the Brownsville Northside Church of Christ building fund, both in Brownsville,TX.
