Bobby Storey was born in Nocona, Texas to Roberts E. (Bob) Storey and Mary Nell McCall Storey on July 25, 1929. He passed away on December 8, 2020 after suffering a stroke on Thanksgiving Day.

As a child, Bobby worked with his parents in business as early as 1935, counting hardware while his folks took inventory. Later in his youth he worked at the Fooshee Dry Goods store, drove for his Grandfather Cad McCall and farmed on the family ranch.

After graduating from Nocona High School, Bobby began school at SMU before the Korean War started. In 1952, Bobby married the former Sue Meekins. After basic training, Bobby and Sue moved to Arlington, VA, where Bobby served in Dwight Eisenhower’s former unit as a Corporal and clerk.

After serving in the Army, Bobby went to work full time at Nocona Leather Goods (Nokona), where he would work for over 62 years. Bobby, along with his Dad and younger brother Jim, led the business to become one the most respected companies in the sporting goods industry. He served as President and later Chairman of the Board. In 1984 he shared the Nocona Citizen of the Year award with younger brother Jim.

He was a founding member of the Nocona Jaycees, Nocona Lions Club and Montague County Knights of Columbus. In the 50’s and early 60’s, Bobby coached Little League baseball and was fondly remembered by a whole generation of young men.

A faithful Catholic for life, Bobby belonged to St. Joseph’s Parish and oversaw construction of the St. Joseph’s Parish Hall.

For years, Bobby raised and raced Quarter Horses. Some of his favorite times were spent with trainers and jockeys talking about horses in Ruidoso, NM. Bobby and Sue loved dancing and could be found most evenings on their front porch North of Nocona.

Together, Bobby and Sue raised Stacy, Christy and Robby. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Sue, brother Jim and sister Jo Bybee . He is survived by Stacy and Rick Byars, Christy and Mark Watson and Rob and Sandra Storey; grandchildren Melissa Norris, Katy Mires, Cally Cantrell, Chris Storey, Robin Storey, and Joseph Storey. Great-grandchildren include Haydrienne Norris, Slaton and Easton Cantrell, Connor Storey, Storey and Kal Luke Mires. In addition to his special caregiver, Rosemary Gonzalez, he also leaves two sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews and their families.

His grandsons will serve as Pallbearers.

A Vigil Service, followed by visitation will be held Thursday, December 10th, 6pm at Jerry Woods Funeral Home Chapel. Due to social distancing Covid restrictions, Mass for family and parishioners will be held at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church on Friday, December 11th, at 11 a.m. After Mass, burial with visitation will be at the Nocona Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome. An Irish wake will be held in the future to celebrate Bobby's life.
