Helen R. Brothers, 87, passed from this life November 21, 2021 in Decatur, TX. Helen was born June 26, 1934 in Nocona to Boss and Votra McNew. Helen married Robert E. "Bob" Brothers November 3, 1962 in Ft. Worth. They enjoyed 35 years of loving marriage until Bob passed away in October 1998. Helen and Bob made their home in Newark, and Helen worked at Safeway in downtown Ft. Worth until her retirement. In 1990, Helen and Bob retired to Nocona.
In her free time and in retirement, Helen loved gardening and canning what she had raised. She also loved to crochet. Helen had a strong sense of compassion and empathy. She was quick to help anyone who was less fortunate than she was, as well as any one who needed a friend. She was uplifting, frequently calling friends to give an encouraging word.
Helen was a longtime member of the Red Hat Ladies in Nocona, and even after she moved into assisted living in Bowie, the ladies would come pick her up for lunch and to spend time together. She was also a member of T.O.P.S. in Nocona for many years, and had many friends there as well.
Helen was a faithful Christian and a long-time member of Bible Baptist Church, which she attended faithfully until her health would not allow her to do so. She served as a Sunday School teacher for many years, and loved serving anywhere she was needed in the church.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Bob Brothers; her parents Boss McNew and Votra and Obie Vowell; daughters Linda Walton, Donna McDonald, and Nancy Smith; sisters Sue Price, Joan Kirk, and (in childhood) Cleta McNew, as well as a nephew Johnny Price.
Helen is survived by her son Robert W. Brothers and wife Radka; grandchildren Jesse Brothers, Jacob Brothers, Helen Brothers, Tereza Brothers, Cheri Storrs, James Simmons, and Richie Simmons and families, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Helen leaves a legacy of compassion and kind friendship. While she will be missed, her family takes comfort in knowing that Helen had put her faith in Jesus all her life, and that she is enjoying the reward He prepared for her in heaven.
Helen's funeral will be Monday, November 29, 2021, 11:00 AM at Scott-Morris Funeral Home. Helen's family will receive visitors from 10:00 until service time.
