Retha Ann Duncan McWhirter was born May 1, 1937, in Wichita Falls, TX to Corean and Roy Duncan. She passed away on August 5, surrounded by her loved ones. She was an only child, and lived her entire life in Nocona, TX. She attended Nocona schools, and graduated Salutatorian of her class in 1955. Retha married Marvin C McWhirter, Jr, on October 13, 1957. They had two daughters, Marvi Ann and Karen Renee. Retha began her career in banking in 1960, going to work at the Farmers and Merchants National Bank, working in bookkeeping and as a teller. She stayed with the bank when it was bought out by Parker Square Bank, Wichita Falls, then through another buyout by Norwest Bank, and finally the bank we know today, Wells Fargo. She retired in 2000 after 40 years of service. Retha raised her family in the country in the house her Daddy built for her in 1968, right next door to her mother and Daddy. She loved her parents very much, and she took care of them until their deaths. Retha loved her Lord and Savior and she loved First Baptist Church of Nocona where she was a faithful member her entire life. She brought her girls to Church every Sunday and was so proud of the Perfect Attendance pins they all three were awarded year after year for 14 years. Retha taught her girls in Sunday School, and later taught adult Sunday School until her memory made teaching too difficult, forcing her to step down in 2018. Retha loved studying the Bible, and was a Bible scholar. She especially loved prophecy and the book of Revelation. During her earlier active years in Church, she had the opportunity to serve as a missionary and was a part of several crusades to Brazil, Argentina, Costa Rica, Guatemala, and Bolivia. Retha loved sharing her faith and personal testimony to glorify her Lord and Savior. She always dreamed of going to the Holy Land and had the privilege of going not once, but twice to walk where Jesus walked. She also loved going to Glorieta and Camp Copass with the Senior Adults. Retha was a member of the Choir, Joy Prayer Group, Nocona Hills Women’s Bible Study, Fidelis Sunday School Class, and she was a Red Hatter! Another great love was her grandchildren and her greatgrandchildren. She attended their school events and sporting events including volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball and football. Retha is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Corean Duncan, her husband, Marvin, and son-in-law, Terry Don Robertson. She is survived by her daughters, Marvi Robertson and Renee Copeland, and husband Rex; grandchildren, Stephanie Robertson, Ryan Robertson, Megan Langford and husband, Blake, Terah Bowles and husband, Toby, Carsyn Copeland Ford and husband Jack; great-grandchildren, Tanner Rivera, Taylor Rivera James and husband Jeremy, Blayne Gomez, Raylea Bowles, Brody Langford, Maddyn Bowles and Mason Robertson. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 7, 2024 from 6 – 7 P.M. at Jerry Woods Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will start at 10 A.M. on Thursday, August 8, 2024 at First Baptist Church in Nocona with Rev. Dave Woodbury officiating. Interment will follow in Nocona Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Blake Langford, Brody Langford, Toby Bowles, Ryan Robertson, Mason Robertson, Blayne Gomez, Tanner Rivera, and Rex Copeland.
