Cheryl was born on September 8, 1949, the youngest daughter of Orville and Lola Hill in Nocona, Texas. She went to school in Nocona and returned as an adult to work at Nocona Elementary School as a cook, then a paraprofessional, and finally retired in the Spring of 2013 as their school secretary. She worked in the laundry and kitchen at Horizon Manor Nursing Home prior to working at the school. Cheryl met Freddie Wayne Hilton in 1966. They were married on March 20, 1967, at Bowie Church of the Nazarene and together they raised 3 sons: Tommy Wayne, Freddie Wayne Jr., and James Lee. Family, as well as Church, have always been Cheryl's priority and main focus in life. Cheryl was a member of the Church of the Nazarene for most of her life. She was completely devoted to God and family and was always the first one to lend a hand or an ear to anyone in need. She taught Sunday school, served on the board, and was the church secretary and treasurer for several years. Cheryl was also the missionary leader, worked VBS, prepared meals once a month, and fed the children on Wednesdays. Not only did Cheryl spend her time improving the lives of others around her, but she also spent time trying to improve herself. Cheryl was a long-time member of TOPS, Take Off Pounds Sensibly. She did her best to encourage others to reach their goals as well. Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband, Freddie Hilton; sister, Lanell Abeyta; mother, Lola Hill; father, Orville Hill; and son, Tommy Hilton. Cheryl made her mark on the world with quiet strength, love, and faith. She was cherished and loved dearly by our family and many who knew her. She was a special lady who will never be forgotten. She will forever be in our hearts. We came across this today, and it immediately touched our hearts. It was something that she wrote down after Freddie passed, "I pray that God will give you eyes to see beyond the clouds of earth into the glory of heaven and the peace that comes from knowing that the one you love is there in His arms."
