James Elbert Gage.

Again the death angel has visited our little city and called home one of its oldest and most prominent citizens in the personage of J. E. Gage, who answered the summons on early Tuesday morning, February 26th, 1907, at the family residence, after a lingering illness of several months, during the most of which time he suffered intensely, and at last bowed to the inevitable and resigned his soul to the God who gave it, after having spent a long and eventful career upon earth, amidst all its cares and sorrows, joys and pleasures, which commonly fall to the lot of mankind.

Mr. Gage was born in Missouri October 1st, 1833, and spent his early manhood in that state. Early in life he associated himself with the Masonic lodge, which noble order officiated at his funeral, which took place at the City Cemetery Tuesday afternoon in the presence of a large gathering of friends and relatives.

To his wife, the heart-broken companion who has suffered his sorrows and rejoiced in his pleasures, his children and other relatives and friends, the News tenders its condolence and expresses the hope that his taking away will be the means of causing them to meet together in that world above, where all is peace and love and sorrow is unknown.
