James Howard Morris, Jr., age 72, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025, in Houston, Texas, after a life well-lived and rich with experiences, friendships, and quiet adventure. Born on January 31, 1953, in Nocona, Texas, James was the son of Howard and Reba Morris (Glass). He graduated from Nocona High School in 1971 and went on to earn his BBA in Finance from North Texas State University in 1976. James lived a life marked by curiosity, passion, and kindness. He had a deep appreciation for world cultures and religions, and he was blessed to travel extensively, gaining wisdom and insight from each place he visited. On his travels, James loved taking beautiful photographs-capturing stunning architecture, sweeping landscapes, and the details that made each place unique. His camera became an extension of how he saw the world: with thoughtfulness, wonder, and reverence. He was both charismatic and reserved-a man who could light up a room with quiet confidence and always made others feel seen and heard. James was truly a friend to everyone he met. He was a proud member of the BMW Car Club of America, the Mind's Eye Band, the Sons of the Republic of Texas. His interests and affiliations reflected his wide-ranging passions and values-heritage, music, precision, and community. James was preceded in death by his parents, Howard Morris and Reba Morris, and by his sister, Judy Clark. He is survived by his sister Jane Goss of Bedford; his brother John Morris, Sr. and wife Kim of Nocona. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews who brought him great joy, and three very dear friends-Benny Daniel, Tim Thomison, and Andrew Thomison-whose companionship was a source of strength and happiness. He is also mourned by a host of extended family and cherished friends. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 11th at 11:00 a.m. at Scott-Morris Funeral Home, with a service to follow at 12:00 noon in the chapel, officiated by his lifelong friend Larry Lemons. Interment will follow at Nocona Cemetery. James planned to live life to the fullest-and he did. His legacy is one of curiosity, kindness, and quiet courage. He will be deeply missed.
