Warren G. Clary, age 83, of Nocona, TX passed away May 17, 2004 in Gainesville, TX.

Mr. Clary was born July 21, 1920 in Montague County, TX to Newt L. And Pearl Phipps-Clary. He grew up in and around Nocona, TX. He attended Nocona Public Schools and was a graduate of Nocona High School. Warren enlisted in the U.S. Army and was assigned to Army Intelligence “G-2�. While serving with Army Intelligence Warren worked in under cover operations which led to the capture of several German Operative Agents spying on U.S. Military interests in California. After World War II Warren attended the Texas State Teachers College (University of North Texas) in Denton, TX. During this time Warren with several friends formed a Country and Western band that played live on the KDNT radio station in Denton, TX every Saturday at noon. He married Johnnie Mae Dickson on August 14, 1954 in Nocona TX. They made their home in Nocona, TX and he went to work at Nocona Leather Goods (Nocona Athletics Goods) on July 17, 1957 and worked for forty-three 1/2 years until he retired December 20, 2000 at the age of 80. He was a member of the Bethel Baptist Church in Nocona, TX and of the V.F.W. American Legion and Woodman of the World.

Funeral services for Mr. Clary were held Thursday, May 20, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Scott Moore officiating. Interment was at the Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Scott-Morris Funeral Home.

Surviving relatives include: his wife, Johnnie, one son, Michael Clary, Denton, TX; one step-daughter, Wanda Bailey, Nocona, TX; one step-grandson, Kevin Bailey, St. Jo, TX; one step-granddaughter, Karen Johnson, New Castle, OK; and several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Newt L. and Pearl Phipps-Clary; two brothers, Leon and Oran Clary; and one sister, Jo Wilma Mullis.
