Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at Scott Bros. Funeral Home for U. W. Reed, who passed away at his home Sunday night, June 12. Rev. W. R. Zimmerman and Rev. Loyd Lester officiated. Interment was at Nocona Cemetery.

Mr. Reed, 80 years old, had been a resident of this county for man years and had been in failing health since the passing of his wife two years ago. He was born in Savannah, Georgia Dec. 28, 1868 and lived there only a few months. He came with his parents to Texas in February 1869. he spent his childhood in Montague County, attended school at Gladys southeast of Saint Jo. He and Bill Murray, former Oklahoma governor, attended school together and were childhood friends. He united with the Methodist Church and lived a Christian life. He married Miss Sadie A. McElroy August 1, 1890 at Old Ducksberry in Montague County. They made their home there for a number of years, moved to Alabama in 1901 but always said they were coming back to Montauge County when they retired, this they did and moved to their home at 201 Sherman St. October 6, 1943. Mrs. Reed died Feb. 25, 1946 and their son James O. Reed died December 24, 1924.

Survivors are six sons, Ray Reed of Frederick, Okla., Jack J. Reed of El Monte, California, George Reed of Davidson, Okla., Lee Reed of Fort Worth, Hugh Reed of Wichita Falls, Dave Reed of Fort Worth and Nocona; two daughters Mrs. N. B. Seay of Lubbock and Mrs. Ruth Pettyjohn of Nocona, 20 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
