He was born August 12, 1952 in Wichita Falls, TX to Johnnie Dee and Lucy Mae Fowler Wood. He served in the U.S. Army and worked in road construction. He was a member of the Baptist faith.

Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009 at Scott-Morris Chapel followed by burial in the Nocona Cemetery. Scott-Morris Funeral Home of Nocona directed the service.

Survivors include: his mother, Lucy Wood of Bowie, TX; three children, Johnnie D. \"Chuck\" Wood of Nocona, Deborah Thomas of Saint Jo, TX and Lesley Tully of Forestburg, TX; four sisters, Beulah Wood, Inez Beasley, Mable Beasley and Doria White; four brothers, E.J., Billy, Charles and Homer Wood; thirteen grandchildren; and seven great grandchildren.
