NOCONA – Gerald Elvin "Jerry" Johnson, 82, passed away on April 4, 2017 in Nocona, TX.

A visitation was at 6 p.m. April 6 at the Jerry Woods Funeral Home in Nocona.

A funeral service was at 1 p.m. on April 7 at Bethel Baptist Church in Nocona with the Rev. Jerry Smith of First Baptist Church, Clifton officiating. Burial followed at Nocona Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his six grandsons.

Jerry was born in Pampa, TX to E.J. and Janet Hanson Johnson on June 13, 1934. He married Lucia Sue Painter on June 3, 1956 at Bethel Baptist Church in Nocona.

Jerry graduated from The University of Texas with a degree in petroleum engineering in 1957. Having completed ROTC, he was commissioned as an officer into the Army at graduation and he was honorably discharged in 1964. He worked at Johnson Supply Company in Nocona for most of his career. He served as a deacon at Bethel Baptist Church for many years, was a former member of the Rotary Club and was a letterman ("T Man") at The University of Texas.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Lucia Sue Painter Johnson; children, Lesli Jan Johnson, Euless and William Craig Johnson and his wife, Leslie, Dallas; and seven grandchildren, Blake William Gantz, Dallas, Dr. Emily Suzann Gantz, Nashville, TN, Garrett Martin Palla, Denton, Dr. William Garner Johnson and his wife, Dr. Grace Jamail Johnson, Houston, and Benjamin Schulz Johnson, Ryan Painter Johnson and Kevin Fallis Johnson all of Austin.

Memorials may be given to Bethel Baptist Church – Youth Fund. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staffs at Nocona General Hospital, Grace Care Center, Solaris Hospice and Bethel Baptist Church, as well as, the many friends who loved him well throughout his life.
