On August 23, 1952, he married Mary Catherine Bruce in Denton, TX. He served in the U.S. Army. He was an insurance broker and was a Church Treasurer and Sunday School teacher. Funeral services were at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Bethel Baptist Church in Nocona with Revs. Jerry Smith, Tommy Lamascus and Dale Berry officiating. Burial followed at Nocona Cemetery under the direction of Jerry Woods Funeral Home. Survivors include: his wife, Mary Catherine Painter of Nocona; son, James Painter of Nocona; daughters, Sheryl Painter Miller of Gainesville and Teri Painter Hoyt of Montgomery, AL; sisters, Gloria Wade and Lucia Johnson, both of Nocona; seven grandchildren; and three great grandchildren.
